Mason Greenwood’s inclusion in Manchester United’s official 2022/23 squad list has left football fans “disgusted.”

Following Manchester United’s formal announcement of their 25-man squad list for the current 2022/23 Premier League campaign, which includes the suspended Mason Greenwood, supporters have flocked to social media in their hundreds to offer their thoughts.

The 20-year-old striker is on the club’s list of Under-21 players who can play.

Greenwood has been suspended by the Red Devils and placed on paid leave as a consequence of a police inquiry.

It comes after Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported in January that “a male in his twenties” was arrested on suspicion of rape, assault, and a threat to kill following allegations made by a lady on social media.

Greenwood is still being held on bail while the police investigation is ongoing.

Manchester United announced in a statement made at the time that Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches “until further notice” after news of the claims spread on social media and GMP verified the arrest.

Nike also abruptly discontinued its sponsorship deal with Greenwood, expressing “great concern” about the allegations.

In the weeks following the arrest, Manchester United decided not to sell shirts with Greenwood’s name and number 11 on the back on its official website, and the club was obliged to refute speculations that the player was due to return to First Team training twice.

When asked in April why Greenwood’s profile remained on the club’s website after being deleted from their mobile app, a club official stated, “There has been no change whatsoever in Mason’s position.”

However, United’s rejection of Greenwood’s comeback appears to have just added to fans’ surprise at seeing the player on the 2022/23 squad list – even if it isn’t for the senior team.

“No, Greenwood should not be registered.” “You should be ashamed,” one Twitter user said.

Others have simply described the move as “disgusting.”

Although reactions have been divided, and many supporters and football experts have pointed to contractual and legal requirements as possible explanations for the player’s inclusion, Manchester United has yet to issue a statement or comment on the squad list in detail.
