Man United’s transfer guru Fabrizio Romano stated the club was looking for innovative additions in the final days of the January transfer window. According to BILD’s Christian Falk, one candidate under consideration is Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund.

Injury has hampered the 33-year-old’s career, but when healthy, he’s a force to be reckoned with.

Since joining Dortmund from Monchengladbach in 2012, Reus has scored 161 goals and assisted 120 more. Reus’ abilities haven’t faded with age, as he has 15 goal contributions this season.

However, Reus’ current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, making him a free agent option for Manchester United, either in a January deal or as a free agent in the summer.

Ten Hag was claimed by Falk to have met with Reus’ representative behind closed doors. The possibility of signing him for nothing in the summer would have mitigated the danger of signing an injury-prone athlete.

However, according to a new BILD report, Reus will not be joining Manchester United this summer. In reality, he won’t be leaving Dortmund at all.

According to the Express, Reus is in the ‘final stages’ of agreeing to a one-year deal with Dortmund.

To do so, the German has been asked to take a steep ‘nearly 50 percent wage cut. That hasn’t been a deal-breaker, with Reus’set to sign’ the proposed terms.

In the process, his income will reportedly be reduced from over £220,000 to around £120,000 each week.

According to the report, Al Nassr of Cristiano Ronaldo and RB Leipzig have joined Manchester United in their pursuit of Reus.

However, the veteran forward was solely interested in staying in Dortmund, where he may retire at the conclusion of the season.
