“Worst player ever” – Man Utd hero Peter Schmeichel angry with two people after Lisandro Martinez Sevilla injury

Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United was forced to leave his team's 2-2 Europa League game with Sevilla on Thursday night.

Peter Schmeichel, a Manchester United icon, has slammed Erik ten Hag and Harry Maguire following Lisandro Martinez’s injury against Sevilla on Thursday night. The Argentina international was injured late in the game at Old Trafford. And he’s now on his way to the bench, with his teammates squandering the game in his absence.

Marcel Sabitzer’s double in the first 21 minutes was canceled out by late own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Maguire, earning Sevilla a point.

To make matters worse for the Red Devils, Martinez was stretchered off, putting the Argentina international on the sidelines.

Schmeichel took aim at Ten Hag and Maguire on BBC Radio 5 Live, saying the two didn’t show enough leadership when Sevilla leveled the tie just minutes after Martinez was dragged down the tunnel.

“Martinez is injured and clearly in pain,” he explained. “It appears that the Sevilla players are being courteous in carrying him off the field.”

“No, they just wanted him out of the way so they could get going.”

“By carrying him off, they didn’t lose momentum; Man United used their five subs because they knew he wouldn’t return.”

“It didn’t allow the manager or the players to have a conversation.”

“Manchester United players should have stopped that, left him on the field, let them [the physios] come on and carry him out, and you regroup during that period.”

“This is something the players must do; there is a lack of leadership on the field.”

“That situation should have been handled by Harry Maguire.” When the manager notices his player being carried off by two opposing players, he should have intervened.”

While criticizing Ten Hag and Maguire, Schmeichel did appreciate David De Gea, Casemiro, and Sabitzer.

“The way it developed in the second half, it’s a fair enough result,” the Denmark international remarked.

“Manchester United’s players blew a golden opportunity here.”

“A few players today need to take a look at themselves and consider whether they are contributing enough to the team.” Several players should be humiliated by their performances.

“De Gea played well, he made two fantastic saves, but he couldn’t stop the goals.”

“He kept Manchester United ahead, but to no avail.” Casemiro returned and performed admirably as well.

“The best player was the guy who scored two goals, Marcel Sabitzer was fantastic.”

“His teammates have failed him. He showed them the route, but they didn’t notice.

“It’s 2-2, and as a Manchester United fan, I’m extremely disappointed.” This game could and should have been 5-0.”

And Schmeichel believes his former club isn’t a big European squad, claiming their late collapse was justified.

“Manchester United is not a top European team yet,” he stated.

“I was advising them to go for the third goal with 28 minutes remaining.” They needed to pick up the pace and re-energize the audience.

“That is a skill that they lack, and it is required if you want to build yourself into a top European team.”

“Every time Manchester United has been successful in Europe, they have had that, so ten Hag needs to add that to the squad.”

“It was a little laid-back. Sevilla was too mediocre in the first half, making it far too easy. Nothing is simple in top European football.

“No one gets to this point by luck or being a bad team. Any squad that gets an opportunity will take it and they did. Fair dos to Sevilla.

“That is my concern, the inability to manage the game.” This has happened a few times this season. That is something ten Hag should bring to this team.”
