Has Alejandro Garnacho signed a new contract with Manchester United?

The brilliant 18-year-old is now in the final 18 months of his contract with the Red Devils, but there is hope that the two parties will reach an agreement soon.

According to recent sources, the Argentina winger has agreed to terms on a proposed new contract extension at Old Trafford through 2024.

This comes after an original offer was reportedly rejected by the 18-year-old, who was hoping for more lucrative terms before signing a contract.

Yet, journalist Fabrizio Romano claims on his YouTube channel that the Qatari bidders have identified the 18-year-old as a player who may face a long-term project at United:

“He’s one of the guys who, from what I understand, is highly valued by this Qatari group. They believe that players like Garnacho, who is still very young but already has a history in the Manchester United academy, may serve as an example, a model, and a role model for many other young players.

“This is what they want to create, and players like Garnacho may serve as a symbol for [the] Manchester United project.”

What are the specifics of Garnacho’s rumored new contract?

According to ESPN, United is poised to sign the 18-year-old to a new five-year contract that will significantly enhance his weekly wage.

The winger is thought to be earning around £7k per week at United, but this amount is expected to rise ‘exponentially’.

But, there appears to be one last hurdle for the Premier League heavyweights to clear, with the player’s image rights still to be finalized in this planned arrangement.

Yet, having a player like Garnacho tied down to a new contract can only be a bonus for possible new owners, with the teenager demonstrating his promise in his limited game time this season.

Garnacho has returned Erik ten Hag with two goals and two assists despite just playing 397 minutes of Premier League football this season (via Transfermarkt).

A similar impact can be seen throughout the various cup competitions, with a key goal in their last Europa League group stage matches against Real Sociedad to seal three points.

But, with Marcus Rashford’s return to form and Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester, it will be intriguing to see how Ten Hag employs Sancho in the coming weeks.
