Manchester United met with Benjamin Sesko’s agent last Wednesday, but Red Bull Salzburg would not sell this window until they receive a bid in excess of £55 million.
The 19-year-old striker has already been linked with transfers to Newcastle, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund this transfer season, but it appears United may be ahead of the pack.
Sesko has started the season strongly, scoring two goals in Salzburg’s first two games, and the club is reluctant to let him go.
Sesko’s agent stirred speculation last week when he uploaded an Instagram photo of himself enjoying dinner near the Tyne Bridge. However, no official negotiations or approaches have taken place from Newcastle as of yet.
The Magpies are still looking for further firepower in their attack, and have been linked with bids for Harvey Barnes and Jack Harrison.
Man United’s interest in Sesko comes while Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains uncertain. The Portuguese great returned to the club this week, but United is looking for a replacement for its iconic number seven.
Sesko, who scored the winning goal for Salzburg in their recent 1-0 pre-season triumph over Liverpool, is considered one probable replacement for Ronaldo.
The club has also been linked with Ajax winger Anthony and Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic.
United’s Premier League season begins next weekend when they host Brighton on Sunday.
