Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United has been lauded by Portugal manager Fernando Santos.
Despite missing United’s last Premier League match of the season against Crystal Palace due to injury, Ronaldo was able to report for international duty last week. On Thursday, Portugal tied with Spain, but on Sunday, they defeated Switzerland to earn three points.
Portugal trounced Switzerland 4-0 in Lisbon, with Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo starting, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scoring two goals. Ronaldo came off the bench to score a brace against Spain.
Santos’ decision to leave Ronaldo out of Portugal’s starting lineup against Spain sparked debate. The 62-year-old was eager to compliment the forward for his reaction and two goals on Sunday night.
