Even though Rangnick selected five forwards in a gung-ho attack, Rashford was relegated to the bench for the 3-2 triumph over Norwich.

Rashford was also on the bench for the defeat at Manchester City last month and the draw with Leicester two weeks ago, when fellow forwards Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood were all absent.

It surfaced in the aftermath of City’s 4-1 defeat. Rashford was contemplating his future at United, despite the fact that he had only scored five goals this season. Rashford’s last start came in October, and he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England team for friendlies against Switzerland and Cote d’Ivoire last month.

Rashford played well in Everton’s 1-0 defeat, but he was the first player to be tactically substituted, and Anthony Elanga took his place against Norwich.

“Today, I had to choose between him and Anthony Elanga,” Rangnick said. “I think Anthony performed well not only when he set up the first goal, but he also played right-back for the first time in his career and did well in the last 20 minutes.”

“With the way he defended, he won the majority of the balls on his side in those 20 minutes, and Marcus came on in the final 25 minutes of the game.” That’s the way it is, and all he has to do now is show up, just like the other guys.”
