Bruno Fernandes believes that Manchester United deserved their win against Brentford on Saturday, citing their control of the game.

United recognized the importance of a victory against Brentford, especially following consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.

However, they got off to a nightmarish start when they conceded the opening goal in the 26th minute.

Andre Onana, who failed to stop Mathias Jensen’s low-driven shot, should have performed better, and Casemiro was also at fault for giving the ball away in the lead-up to the goal, leading to his substitution at halftime.

Christian Eriksen replaced the Brazilian, and other changes were made in the second half. However, United appeared to lack ideas, and Brentford seemed poised for a well-deserved 1-0 victory until Scott McTominay’s introduction.

McTominay replaced Sofyan Amrabat in the 87th minute and dramatically equalized in the third minute of injury time before remarkably scoring again to secure the win in the seventh minute of added time.

The victory can largely be attributed to McTominay, and Fernandes expressed his relief in an interview with MUTV.

“When asked about the dressing room’s reaction, Fernandes said, “Relief, happiness, and we all agree that we deserved this result because we controlled the game really well during the 90 minutes. We could have scored in the first half, but we didn’t.

When we don’t score and concede, it’s always going to be tough. But today, we got three points and two goals from Scott in the last minute. It was a really good result for us because we needed points today.

“That’s what the manager always emphasizes about the substitutes. Last year, we were the team with the most goals coming from the bench, and this has to be the mindset for everyone coming off the bench.

“I know it’s difficult to be on the bench; everyone wants to be playing. But Scott came on for 10 minutes and scored two goals.

It’s Fergie time at United, and it’s quite normal to score at this time of the game. Part of Fergie time is having an academy player score too. Scott gave us the win today, and we’re all really happy for him.

“It was the desire and togetherness we displayed throughout the game, the effort we put in. It was really commendable.”
