The midfielder entered the match in the 87th minute and scored two stoppage-time goals to help United secure a much-needed 2-1 victory over Brentford, following consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.

McTominay revealed that he had watched David Beckham’s documentary, ‘BECKHAM,’ on Netflix the night before his remarkable performance and explained how it motivated him.

In an interview with MUTV, McTominay expressed, “I can’t find the words to describe what it felt like for that second goal. It was like an out-of-body experience.

I watched David Beckham’s documentary last night, and you see the history and the people behind the club.

“That’s who we do it for, Kath at the reception, the kitmen, everyone. It’s crucial that we all come together, and that’s the essence of this football club. We do it for the people.

The fans have been supporting this football club for many, many years. Just like me, I’m a fan, so I want us to succeed.”

McTominay has had to patiently await his playing time this season, with two new midfielders arriving at the club over the summer and Kobbie Mainoo, who suffered a pre-season injury, also making his way through the ranks.

His appearance against Brentford marked his third in the Premier League as a substitute this season, with only two starts.

The Scottish midfielder, who has been in excellent scoring form for his country in 2023, has been working hard on the training pitch to prove he deserves more game time.

When asked about the message he received before coming on against Brentford, McTominay stated, “I was speaking to Darren Fletcher and the other coaches, and they told me that whenever I get the opportunity, I should go on and showcase myself.

“That’s what I’ve been striving to do in training—to demonstrate that I’m capable of moments like that. Hopefully, this will continue in the future if we can come together as a team and start playing the way we know we can.”
