Last week, the Red Devils were knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough in a 7-8 penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford that included a questionable equalizer by Chris Wilder’s team.

Ralf Rangnick would have been devastated if his club had been eliminated from the renowned cup tournament, but with a game against Burnley on the horizon, he will be hoping for a positive reaction at Turf Moor.

Manchester United Team Information

Alex Telles and Fred, two new Covid-related absentees, must be dealt with by the manager. The duo will miss today’s game, and Fred is expected to miss Saturday as well.

Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani have both been declared fit and available, while Raphael Varane is expected to keep his place.

Ralf was tight-lipped about Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes, but the club’s website says the pair are “expected [to] be well after knocks.”

Manchester United Lineup Prediction vs. Burnley (4-3-3)

Goalkeeper

Dean Henderson was given a run-out in the fourth round FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough, so David de Gea will return in goal. This season, the Spaniard has been at his best and deserves to start at Turf Moor.

Defense

The in-form Diogo Dalot is expected to hold his spot at right-back in the Manchester United squad, keeping Aaron Wan-Bissaka out of the starting XI. Luke Shaw had a good game against Middlesbrough, and with Telles out, he will continue to play at left-back uncontested.

Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire will almost certainly remain their central defensive positions, as the pair will be entrusted with restraining the Burnley forwards, Wout Weghorst and Maxwell Cornet.

Midfield

Last week, the midfield trio of Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes worked well together against Wilder’s Boro team, and even though Burnley has superior quality players in the middle of the park than the Championship side, Rangnick has no cause to make changes.

If the manager believes the midfield is too attack-minded, Nemanja Matic is an option, albeit against goal-shy Premier League opposition.

Attack

Rangnick has possibilities to make changes upfront, but considering the free-flowing manner of their play against Boro, he may leave the usual suspects to build on their chemistry.

Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho should start on the flanks for Manchester United, while Cristiano Ronaldo may get the nod over Edinson Cavani to lead the line once more.
