After a U-turn by manager Erik ten Hag, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is poised to remain at Manchester United for the time being.

The former England junior international, 24, has fallen behind Diogo Dalot in the pecking order and has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer. He’s just played four minutes of Premier League football this season, coming off the bench in the win over Liverpool.

Wan-Bissaka joined United from Crystal Palace three years ago in a £50 million deal. He was a regular under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, appearing in 100 games over his first two seasons at the club, but fell out of favor under his successor Ralf Rangnick.

Wan-Bissaka appeared in just two of Manchester United’s final ten Premier League games last season. The right-back has gotten accolades for his defending, but he struggles in offensive positions, scoring only two goals and giving 14 assists in 173 club games.

In August 2021, Roy Keane stated, “I think the right-back [Wan-Bissaka] is probably not good enough.” Two months later, he added: “Wan-Bissaka, I doubt Palace will accept him back! He’s not good enough for Manchester United. There is no feel for the ball or decision making.”

Despite losing his place at United, Wan-Bissaka is unlikely to leave in the summer. According to The Athletic, United has no plans to sell or loan the defender, who has two years left on his contract, before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

This is due to the fact that Ten Hag would need to bring in a substitute right-back. Wan-Bissska might quit United if a replacement is found, with speculations circulating that Borussia Dortmund star Thomas Meunier could join the club this week.

Sergio Dest, a right-back for Barcelona, is another possible option. United have reportedly considered a swap deal with the Spanish giants featuring the USA international – who has made 72 appearances in the last two seasons – and Wan-Bissaka.

Both transfers appear implausible at this time. It is reported that United have rejected bids for Wan-Bissaka from West Ham and his former club Palace, implying that the defender is staying here and that neither Meunier, 30, nor Dest, 21, are in their plans.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Ten Hag would allow Wan-Bissaka to depart United while keeping Dalot on their roster. Despite this, the Dutchman has made only four additions to the squad since taking over at Old Trafford in May.

These players are Feyenoord’s Tyrell Malacia, Brentford’s Christian Eriksen, Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez, and Real Madrid’s Casemiro. Antony, an Ajax winger, is on the verge of becoming Ten Hag’s sixth acquisition of the summer in an £85 million deal.

On Monday, Antony was seen arriving at United’s Carrington training complex. “We keep to the plan, and if good players become available, we will strike because we always want to strengthen the group,” Ten Hag stated on Saturday afternoon.
