Manchester United’s preparations for the return of the Premier League later this month hit a snag when they were defeated 4-2 by Cadiz in La Liga on Wednesday.

The squad may have been decimated as a result of the absences of several World Cup players, but Erik ten Hag will have seen enough of what was left to realize that significant reinforcements are still required. As a result, a surprise swap deal could be proposed to secure a key target for next year, while one star will not stay beyond the current season.

United Plan unexpected swap-deal
It is no secret that Manchester United are looking for another right defender to compete with and give competition for Diogo Dalot, with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries being on the top of Ten Hag’s shopping list.

The Netherlands international has impressed thus far at the World Cup, and the Red Devils will be eager to finalize a deal as quickly as possible. And according to Pianet Azurro, United are preparing to make a €30 million approach to Inter for Dumfries.

However, the report also claims that the Red Devils would include current first-choice right back Dalot in the transfer, which comes as a great surprise given his role under Ten Hag so far this season and his importance to the Man United side.

Sommer swoop is planned by the Red Devils.
Yann Sommer, the goalkeeper from Switzerland and Borussia Monchengladbach, is another failed summer move that Manchester United is likely to reconsider.

The Red Devils were heavily connected with the veteran goalkeeper throughout the summer, but Sommer preferred to finish his contract with the Bundesliga club. United, on the other hand, has not given up and will make another attempt to capture his services.

According to ESPN, United is ‘working on’ a deal to sign the free agent next summer and will be able to contact his agency as of January 1st.

Dubravka will leave at the end of the season.
With United attempting to negotiate a contract for Sommer to improve their goalkeeping ranks next season, current Newcastle loanee Martin Dubravka is unlikely to stay at Old Trafford beyond this season.

Following Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest, the Slovakian international joined the Red Devils over the summer as David De Gea’s backup, although he has only played once under Ten Hag’s side since – a 4-2 Carabao Cup triumph over Aston Villa.

According to ESPN, United will not try to extend Dubravka’s loan or sign him on a permanent deal at the end of the season. With Nick Pope currently as Newcastle’s first choice, Dubravka is poised to leave the Magpies permanently after his loan stay at Old Trafford expires.
