Manchester United are about to announce Antony as Erik ten Hag’s fifth summer acquisition after the soon-to-be former Ajax player was photographed visiting the club’s training complex to finalize his £84 million move.
Antony has been observed for the first time entering Manchester United’s training ground ahead of his £84 million bombshell signing.
The 22-year-old winger will have a physical on Monday evening after the Red Devils agreed to terms with Ajax. Erik ten Hag, who brought Antony to Amsterdam in 2020 before coaching him during two successful seasons as both a player and manager, is ready to rejoin him at Old Trafford.
Mirror Football exclusively reported on Friday that the Brazilian had gone on strike at his present club in order to force a transfer after going public with his intention to leave the Netherlands after holding crunch talks with Ajax executives. Antony is on the approach of fulfilling his dream of joining Manchester United, according to a video posted on Twitter by @alleplgoals, which shows him heading through the main doors at the club’s Carrington training center.
Antony is expected to finish his medical without incident, and it’s just a matter of time before he’s revealed as a Red Devil. The move follows a shocking article in the Guardian in which the Brazil international opened out about his circumstances and attempted to negotiate a more amicable exit from Ajax.
“Since February of this year, my agents have been in Amsterdam informing Ajax of my wish to leave the club to pursue new opportunities and that some interested clubs will approach with a nice offer,” Antony stated. “Meetings continued during the window months, and I also received a contract renewal proposal from Ajax,” I stated unequivocally that I intend to leave.
“I was really pleased in Amsterdam; I won trophies at Ajax, developed friends, and created a portion of my career there, but now I am ready and full of drive to pursue my tale and my aspirations.” People must listen to me and recognize that my passion propels me toward happiness.”
Ten Hag is overjoyed to have Antony through the door after declaring that United will work until the summer transfer market closes at 11 p.m. on Thursday – the same night the Red Devils visit Leicester City in the Premier League.
“We keep to the strategy, and if there are strong players available, we will strike because we always want to strengthen the group,” Ten Hag said after Southampton won 1-0 on Saturday. “As a result, we’ll be on high alert until the very last second of the window.”
While an announcement is coming soon, Antony is not likely to play in Thursday’s match. Before he can be formally registered as a Manchester United player, the Sao Paulo youth product must secure a UK work permit.
