Greenwood next club Announced: Man Utd attempting to find ‘right solution’ for departing striker

Manchester United is looking for a club with the proper environment for Mason Greenwood after he announced his departure from Old Trafford.

On Monday, both United and the player published statements announcing that he would be continuing his career outside of Old Trafford. The announcement came after a furious backlash to reports of his return to the club.

GOAL understands that United is currently working with Greenwood and his family to find him a club that will provide him with a suitable atmosphere to continue his career.

United are in active talks over the player’s future, although it is unknown where he will go. Serie A had already been mentioned as a possible destination, with Italian newspaper La Repubblica tying Greenwood to a move to Juventus.

United are also believed to believe that Greenwood will never play for the club again, even if he leaves on loan.

Greenwood’s contract with United was terminated in January 2022 after he was arrested on allegations of sexual assault and domestic abuse. He was prosecuted in October, but the Crown Prosecution Service has subsequently dismissed the charges due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and the revelation of fresh information.

United have now completed their own internal investigation, and while they remain convinced that Greenwood did not commit the offenses charged against him, they have determined that the player will not be able to continue his career with the club.

It’s unknown whether United will get a transfer fee if they try to sell Greenwood, or if they’ll resolve his future by mutually terminating his contract. His current contract expires in 2025.

The transfer window ends on September 1 in England, but it remains open for teams in other European nations – and abroad, including Saudi Arabia – for much longer.
