The Red Devils had been conducting an inquiry since February after the Crown Prosecution Service dismissed allegations of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and violence against the English striker.

Following his arrest for the alleged offenses, Greenwood was suspended by Man United in January 2022, and he has not played for the club or trained with his teammates at Carrington since.

The Red Devils attempted to re-sign him but opted against it after receiving severe criticism.

Gary Lineker, broadcaster of Match of the Day and former England international striker, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to respond to the latest development.

The 21-year-old has two years left on his contract, with the option of another year, but he will now seek a new opportunity.

The England player is unlikely to play in the Premier League again, and his international career with the Three Lions is also set to end.

While Greenwood was never found guilty in court, the evidence that was splattered all over social media at the time of the incident did more than enough damage to his image.

A move to another European club may also be difficult for the Manchester United academy graduate, leaving Saudi Pro League clubs as the most likely to express an interest in him.

Greenwood scored 35 goals and had 12 assists in 139 games for the Red Devils and was widely considered one of the world’s most promising forwards during his brief time at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately, he will have to search elsewhere to further his career while simultaneously proving his innocence, but the charges will follow him for a long time.
