Mount’s contract at Chelsea expires in 2024, and it has become increasingly clear in recent months that he will not be extending it.

The Englishman has been a standout performer for the Blues this season, but his form has dropped. Chelsea’s opponents, meanwhile, are not deterred. Liverpool have been heavily connected with him, but Manchester United are said to be the frontrunners in the race to sign the midfielder.

Mount was alleged to have ‘told Chelsea’ that he wanted to finalize a move to Old Trafford over the weekend.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, “Mount’s people appear hurt by previous talks” with Chelsea, who are demanding “in excess of £75 million.”

“Mason Mount’s situation has caused real issues at Chelsea,” Bailey explained to TEAMtalk. “They really don’t want him to leave, but they are firm in their belief that a player cannot run out a contract.”

“Mount appears to be on his way out of Chelsea, and his representatives, including his father Tony, have reached an agreement in principle with Manchester United.”

“Chelsea have been left stunned by the Mount situation, and it is safe to say that they have been dissatisfied with the actions of the players’ representatives led by Tony.”

“They still had some hope that he would stick with Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment, but the damage has been done, Mount’s people appear to be hurt by previous talks, and that is not going away.”

“And, while Chelsea is willing to sell, they are adamant that they will only do so at the right price.” They’re thinking in excess of £75 million, which is far more than Manchester United is now willing to give, so keep an eye on it.”

Man United are also seeking a new striker, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is one of their top targets.

The Red Devils could also look to replace David De Gea, who has yet to sign a new contract as of this writing.
