Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends message to Man United players ahead of Villarreal trip
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his players to “believe themselves” as they prepare to face Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Manchester United terminated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday after a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road in the Premier League.
As the Red Devils try to appoint an interim head coach until the end of the season, Michael Carrick has been placed in temporary supervision of first-team matters.
Manchester United will return to Champions League play on Tuesday night when they travel to Villarreal in an attempt to get back on track.
Following the announcement of his departure, Solskjaer gave an in-depth interview to Manchester United’s in-house media channel on Sunday.

And the Norwegian was eager to deliver a rallying cry to the Manchester United side before of their Champions League match against Barcelona on Tuesday.
“As I’ve said to them this morning as well, trust yourselves, you know we’re better than this,” Solskjaer remarked to MUTV when asked what he would say to the players ahead of the Villarreal trip.
“We haven’t been able to show it, but go out, put your chest out, and enjoy being a Manchester United player in the Champions League, on the grandest platform.”
“You’re through to the next round if and when you win the game, Michael [Carrick] will be in control.”
“I have the utmost regard for Michael, and I adore Michael.” Because he’s the best, I’m getting emotional. They’re going to be OK. I’ll keep an eye on them and offer my support.”
If they beat Villarreal or if all of their group games are drawn, the Red Devils will go to the last 16.
Manchester United has lost seven of their last 13 games overall, including five of their last seven in the Premier League.
Watford’s defeat was their worst against a promoted club since a 5-1 loss at Manchester City in September 1989.In their last seven games, the Red Devils have also surrendered 19 goals. They’ve conceded 29 goals in all competitions this season, trailing only Norwich and Leicester (30) in the Premier League.
