PSV have confirmed their price for coveted striker Cody Gakpo, who came close to joining Manchester United this summer.

Statistically, Gakpo is the most in-form striker in Europe at the moment. He is expected to be called up by Louis van Gaal to represent the Netherlands at the World Cup in November.

United had set their sights on Gakpo last summer, but the deal fell through as the Red Devils prioritised signing winger Antony for £86m. The Dutchman has since admitted that “it was a shame” that the transfer did not materialise.

However, Erik ten Hag could be ready to strengthen his squad by bringing in the striker in January, and his price is affordable for the club.

According to the Telegraaf, PSV must accept offers of €30m for their player to ease the financial pressure on the Eredivisie club.

United short of attacking options: Gakpo is ideal
Currently, United’s first-choice strikers are Anthony Martial, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford, with the latter rotating between number nine and winger roles. Martial has struggled for form this season and has accumulated just 133 minutes of game time.

Ronaldo has undoubtedly been one of the best strikers in the world in recent years, but he is now 37 and not Ten Hag’s preferred choice to lead the line.

Gakpo is a young, hungry and talented option, capable of being a starter from the outset, given his experience and goalscoring contribution.
