Arsenal are in ‘pole position’ to sign Youri Tielemans when the Leicester midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season, according to reports. The Gunners have been strongly linked with the Belgian in the past and could strike a bargain deal next summer.

Tielemans is yet to extend his Leicester contract beyond the end of 2022-23, prompting a scramble for his signature next year. Manchester United have also shown an interest in the 25-year-old.

Arsenal are reportedly best placed to complete a deal, with head coach Mikel Arteta still hoping to strengthen his midfield. The north Londoners have previously considered making bids for Tielemans but have decided to wait until the end of his deal.

Arteta’s hopes of signing Tielemans have recently received a boost. Rivals Juventus have decided to pull out of the race to sign the former Anderlecht prodigy.

That is according to the Mirror, who claim that Arsenal are in ‘pole position’ to complete a deal ahead of the 2023-24 season. The Premier League leaders are expected to be busy next summer as Arteta builds on his fine work at the Emirates Stadium.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted that the Foxes do not need to part ways with Tielemans’ reported £120,000 per week salary. The Northern Irishman says his star player remains committed to the Midlands outfit.

“It’s not something we are thinking of [selling Tielemans] and not anything the club have said we need to do. We don’t want to be offloading our best players, that’s for sure. So there has been no hint or indication we need to generate money and move him on. But, of course, there’s a business side to the club that they will look at.
