What Antony said after scoring worlclass goal for Manchester United goal vs Arsenal
Antony said his first goal was “just the beginning” after helping Manchester United to an impressive 3-1 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Brazilian international, who only joined the club on transfer deadline day from Ajax, started for Erik ten Hag, replacing Anthony Elanga. His inclusion from the start forced Jadon Sancho to move to the left, and Antony to his preferred position on the right flank.
After a relatively quiet first 34 minutes, the 22-year-old threatened to send Old Trafford into ecstasy with a stunning goal. Receiving a pass from Marcus Rashford, who scored twice after the break, the former Ajax man, with his preferred left foot, beat Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale with a calm, low shot.
It was the kind of strike he would have dreamed of when he went to bed on Saturday night. An excellent finish, which even earned substitute Cristiano Ronaldo a round of applause.
Ronaldo replaced the Brazilian 13 minutes into the second half, just two minutes before Arsenal equalised through Bukayo Saka. However, Rashford scored twice for Antonio, who emerged victorious on his debut.
On his Twitter account, Antony commented on his United debut: “What an amazing day! Thank you so much to all the MU staff and my teammates.”
“I will never forget this day! To the United fans, all my love for this reception! Let’s go for more! This is just the beginning!”

Speaking about the Brazilian’s first game in United colours, Ten Hag, who was determined to add him to his squad in the summer, said, “I know what he can do, I said before the game that we needed him on the right wing. With his pace, his dribbling, his ability to press, he is very good in that area, we saw that. ”
“[At] the moment he’s lacking a bit of power, he missed a few training sessions in pre-season, an injury, and then the last ten days. [The intensity of the Premier League is going to be high and a challenge for him, but today we saw his potential, it’s great that he scored the first goal.”
