Jose Luis Mendilibar, head coach of Sevilla, believes his club defeated Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg on Thursday night in Spain because his players believe in what he told them to do against the Red Devils.
Mendilibar also stated his joy at being in charge of the current Sevilla team.
Sevilla defeated Manchester United 3-0 at home, thanks to a brace from Youssef En-Nesyri and a goal from Loic Bade.
After drawing 2-2 in the first leg at Old Trafford last week, the La Liga side ousted Erik ten Hag’s team from the Europa League with a 5-2 aggregate win.
Mendilibar told Movistar+ after the game that he was pleased to have led Sevilla to their historic victory over Manchester United.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be in charge of this game,” he stated.
“I’m grateful to the players because they believed in what I asked of them.”
In May, Sevilla will meet Juventus in the Europa League semi-finals.
