MANCHESTER UNITED “OPEN TO RECRUITING ANOTHER CENTRE-HALF” EVEN IF VARANE SIGNS

Manchester United has already had a busy summer.

Tom Heaton has returned to the club on a free transfer, but the club’s most notable business to date has been the acquisition of Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho for a huge sum of 73 million pounds.

Although the Englishman is yet to be introduced as a Red Devil, Manchester United tweeted on July 1st that they “have negotiated a contract in principle” for his signing, implying that the deal has been completed.

Furthermore, Raphael Varane appears to be leaning towards a move to Old Trafford, assuming a fee can be agreed upon, with reputable transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano expressing Varane’s desire for “Premier League experience,” putting the Red Devils in pole position.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Varane is now in “United mode,” expecting a deal that will significantly bolster United’s defense.

However, the former Premier League giants are unsatisfied with just one center back in, with Samuel Luckhurst stating that “the club is open to recruiting another center-half” in addition to Raphael Varane. A look at the existing choices explains why: Victor Lindelof is a decent though an unspectacular option, but Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, and Axel Tuanzebe have all been disappointing in past appearances.

    DON’T MISS:

Any new defender would almost certainly be expected to play second fiddle to Harry Maguire and Varane, who is likely to become Manchester United’s first-choice partnership. This would rule out Pau Torres, with whom United had previously been associated.
