Erik ten Hag described Cristiano Ronaldo and other Manchester United players leaving Old Trafford before the end of Sunday’s friendly against Rayo Vallecano as “unacceptable.” After sending a strong team to Oslo to face Atletico Madrid on Saturday, United finished their preseason practices the next day against another Spanish side. United drew 1-1 with Rayo at Old Trafford, with Ronaldo making his first preseason debut, playing the first 45 minutes.

The 37-year-old missed the team’s pre-season trip to Thailand and Australia due to a family matter, and he was seen leaving Sunday’s game with Diogo Dalot before full-time.

Ten Hag did not speak to the media after the game, but he has since communicated his displeasure with Viaplay.

“Many more (besides Ronaldo) went home,” United manager Jose Mourinho remarked.

“This is completely unacceptable for everyone,” he stated. “I tell them it’s unacceptable, that we’re a squad, a team, and that you should stay to the end.”

Ten Hag will take command of United’s first competitive encounter as manager when they face Brighton at home in the Premier League on Sunday.
