The 20-year-old continues to await his inaugural Premier League goal since his £72 million transfer from Atalanta during the summer.

His hopes were deferred when he was substituted shortly after the hour mark at Bramall Lane, following Oli McBurnie’s equalizer that canceled out Scott McTominay’s opening goal from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Diogo Dalot’s strike secured all three points for Erik ten Hag’s team.

Nonetheless, Chelsea icon Ruud Gullit expressed the belief that Hojlund’s fellow players aren’t providing enough support to help him find the back of the net.

In an interview with Premier League productions (via the Metro), Gullit remarked, “I still believe it’s imperative to ensure your striker scores because when he finds the net, he gains confidence, and the team starts seeking him out consistently.”

Gullit emphasized that Hojlund often finds himself in positions where his teammates could provide assistance.

He observed that some players appear too focused on scoring goals themselves, preferring to take shots rather than passing to Hojlund.

Gullit drew upon his experience playing alongside Marco Van Basten, highlighting the importance of passing to a reliable striker.

He emphasized that strikers tend to be selfish and need to score goals to maintain their happiness within the team, which, in turn, positively influences the team’s overall performance.

Notably, Hojlund’s goal-scoring record in the Champions League has been more impressive, with his first goal coming against Bayern Munich, followed by a brace against Galatasaray, despite both matches ending in defeat.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag explained that he substituted the Danish international in the 63rd minute against Sheffield United to maintain Hojlund’s sharpness.

He noted that while Hojlund often plays full games, there is a need to manage his minutes to ensure he remains competitive within the team.

Ten Hag stressed the importance of internal competition and rotating players to maintain their energy and focus in every game.
