Manchester United will play an additional friendly against Wrexham on Wednesday in order for Erik ten Hag to provide more of his players playing time ahead of the new season.

United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia was fruitful, with victory over Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, and Crystal Palace before being held to a stalemate by Aston Villa in their last match on Saturday. Ten Hag and his players have returned to the United Kingdom, and after a day off on Monday, they were back in training on Tuesday as preparations for the new season continue.

United still had two friendlies left, with the first team facing Atletico Madrid in Oslo on Saturday and a second-string side facing Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford the next day. However, a private match against the National League side Wrexham has been added.

The game was originally scheduled to feature a United youth team, but Ten Hag has chosen to take the occasion to offer extra minutes to individuals who haven’t seen much action on tour. Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez, both new acquisitions, could also make their debuts, despite the fact that the latter has yet to legally finalize his transfer from Ajax.

Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Fred, Diogo Dalot, and Victor Lindelof all started every pre-season encounter so far, therefore they may not be involved.

Ten Hag should exploit the game to get as many marginal players as feasible minutes, especially those who may need a fitness boost before playing this weekend.

In the two full-back positions, Laird and Malacia are worthy of starts, and it would be nice to see Martinez included if his transfer is finalized in time for the game.

Garner, like Van de Beek, requires additional playing time following a limited summer duty. Eriksen, too, would benefit from a first appearance before a more formal introduction this weekend.

Pellistri, Elanga, and Amad could all play in a fluid forward line up front.
