Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has explained why Erik ten Hag is looking for the ideal players to help him restore the club.

It’s no secret that the Dutchman is attempting to cherry-pick a few of the greatest players who worked under him at Ajax. Frenkie de Jong is his top goal, and the MEN understands United and Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle for his transfer.

Tyrell Malacia of Feyenoord is in the similar boat. While he did not play for Ten Hag at Ajax, the defender was closely observed by him in the Eredivisie, adding to the assumption that the next United manager is looking for players he knows well.

Some have questioned whether the Dutch top flight will be able to adjust to the Premier League’s brutality. Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez of Ajax, both linked with United, are both under 6ft and of average build.

However, Louis Saha believes that the type of players Ten Hag is looking for are the type of players United require and that they can adapt to English football without losing their flare. He compared the situation to Kevin De Bruyne’s early days at Manchester City.

“There is a physical side to the Premier League, and they [the connected players] are more technical players with flair – that’s their style, and they shouldn’t alter,” he explained to bonuscodebets.

“They will have to adapt because every player at this level must.” We saw it with Kevin De Bruyne – I don’t think his physical aspect was appreciated at first, but as his stamina was established, his technical flair shone through.”

Ten Hag’s transfer plan is “wise,” according to Saha because he knows how to get the most out of his targeted players. “It’s not only about being physical; it’s about discipline, intensity, and how much you want it more than the opposition,” he continued.

“The most important thing is to have a manager who knows how to get you to give your all. Those players are of that type, and it is critical for the manager to add those characteristics.

“Perhaps he’ll adjust his plan in future transfer windows, but in this one, it’s a really clever approach.”
