Christian Eriksen has decided to join Manchester United, according to GOAL.

The Denmark international has orally agreed to a three-year deal with Erik ten Hag’s Old Trafford revolution.

The signing is not yet complete, as paperwork must be completed, but the playmaker is now expected to become one of a slew of new signings this summer.

Eriksen became a free agent after his contract with Brentford expired last month.

Tottenham had also expressed interest in re-signing their former star, but when Antonio Conte shifted his focus to other targets, United emerged as the front-runner for the 30-year-old.

Eriksen provides Manchester United a transfer boost

The news comes as a relief to Ten Hag, who is dealing with the fallout from Cristiano Ronaldo’s declaration of his intention to leave the club.

Ronaldo did not attend his first day of preseason training on Monday, citing family obligations as the reason for his absence.

United have accepted his explanation, but they are adamant that he is not for sale and that he must complete the remaining 12 months of his contract.

How will Eriksen fit into the Manchester United system?

According to GOAL, Ten Hag told United that he wants Eriksen and top target Frenkie de Jong as part of a midfield revamp.

With Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard all leaving at the end of last season, that is the area he believes needs the greatest attention since taking over at the club.

Ten Hag believes Eriksen can play in a deeper midfield role or as a No10, giving him more choices in the middle of the field.

What are Manchester United’s plans for this season?

United’s focus is central midfield, with Ten Hag close to completing a deal for De Jong, but the club is also looking for defensive reinforcements.

Tyrell Malacia of Feyenoord was set to finish his medical on Monday before becoming the club’s first signing of the summer, while a bid has also been made for Ajax center-back Lisandro Martinez.
