Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s game against Atletico Madrid in Oslo, although he could play against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag has picked a 21-man squad to face Atletico Madrid in a pre-season friendly in Norway, and it is assumed that his strongest side, as well as the team that will face Brighton next weekend, will compete in that game.

A day later, United host Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford in Ten Hag’s first home game, and some of those who did not play in Oslo may be called up.

Raphael Varane is also missing from the trip to Norway, having had a troubled pre-season after missing two games with a slight injury on the pre-season tour.

He played in a behind-closed-doors game against Wrexham on Wednesday and could play against Rayo on Sunday if he is fit.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, and Luke Shaw are also absent from the squad’s trip to Norway. Some may participate on Sunday, though United has announced that some players will not travel due to illness or injury.

New signees Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen are in the squad and could participate after playing against Wrexham on Wednesday.

The Atletico Madrid game begins at 12.45pm in Oslo, with the Rayo Vallecano encounter beginning at 4pm on Sunday at Old Trafford.

The complete traveling team for the game against Atletico Madrid is as follows:

David De Gea, Tom Heaton, and Matej Kovar are the goalkeepers.

Diogo Dalot, Ethan Laird, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, and Alex Telles are the defenders.

Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, James Garner, Scott McTominay, Facundo Pellistri, and Donny van de Beek are the midfielders.

Anthony Elanga, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho are the forwards.
