Manchester United ‘very close’ to reaching agreement for signing – Player ‘could pack his bags’
According to Sport, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is seducing Frenkie de Jong with his new initiative at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils and Barcelona are negotiating a transfer for the midfielder, but he will have the last word this summer.
Contacts between the La Liga club and Manchester United are thought to have begun before the end of last season. It was done to see whether Barcelona would make the 25-year-old accessible on the market.
Barcelona made it plain that they were willing to split ways with the ex-Ajax player for €80 million. According to Sport, the two clubs are very close to reaching an agreement for the Netherlands international.
Due to his employer’s economic and sports dilemma, De Jong ‘may pack his bags this summer. Manchester United is interested, and Ten Hag is attempting to persuade him.
This is reiterated in today’s Mundo Deportivo, which adds that the Premier League club is ‘pushing’ to sign Xavi’s man. This summer, he is their manager’s first priority.
Ten Hag is ‘convinced of being able to convince’ De Jong to become a crucial component of his new Manchester project. The player has ruled out a move to United because they do not offer Champions League football.
Despite Barcelona’s financial problems, the English club has not given up on De Jong. The Catalan club has also not closed the door on the midfielder’s departure.
Apart from Manchester United, Mundo mentions Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.
There is some disagreement’ within the club about the decision to sell him. Barcelona’s top officials say the decision to cut connections with De Jong was made for sporting grounds, while the club’s technical department insists De Jong must be sacrificed to better the club’s financial situation.
Manchester United and Barcelona are very close to striking an agreement, and a deal may be completed shortly if Ten Hag and the Red Devils can persuade De Jong.
