Ten Hag joined United from Ajax this summer with the intention of transforming the Red Devils into a club capable of competing at the very top of the Premier League.

While the Dutchman is widely regarded for his tactical mindset and ability to develop young players, questions have been raised about how he will handle the transition from the Eredivisie to the Premier League, as well as his lack of experience coaching high-profile players such as Cristiano Ronaldo.

‘Of course, what Ten Hag has done is credible, winning the league three times,’ Murphy told talkSPORT.

‘But he hasn’t managed big players at a big club, so we’re not sure how he’ll handle the pressure.’

‘Every aspect of his existence will be exaggerated, whether he goes to the wrong store at the wrong time or drives the wrong car.’ Everything he does will be talked about.’

As a result, the former Liverpool and Fulham midfielder stated that he would have like to see England manager Southgate given the opportunity to coach a top Premier League club such as Manchester United.

Southgate has established himself as one of the game’s most adept man-managers, guiding the Three Lions to fourth place in the 2018 World Cup and runners-up at the Euros last summer.

‘I know them [Southgate and his assistant Steve Holland], the pair of them have gone a long way, they’ve got a terrific partnership,’ Murphy remarked.
