Ralf Rangnick’s team has struggled for consistency since taking over, but they will need to turn things around if they are to compete in the Champions League next season.

Arsenal are now in fourth place in the Premier League, three points ahead of Manchester United, but Lindelof isn’t giving up hope of catching Mikel Arteta’s team.

He is aware, though, that any aspirations of finishing in the top four are contingent on finding consistency on the field, something both they and Tottenham have struggled with throughout the season.

“We haven’t been as constant as we could have been.” That is simply the truth. He told United Review, “We need to be more consistent with our performances.”

“You can’t win one game, then draw another, then win another… we need to be more consistent in our performances.” We preserved a clean sheet in our last home game [against Watford], but we didn’t score any goals. We just need to be a little bit more consistent with that, because I know as a defender and as a club that if we keep a clean sheet, we have the quality up front to score goals, so maybe we can find that rhythm and win a few games in a row.

“Everyone wants to play Champions League football, and we strive to stay focused on that goal.” That’s what we’re aiming for.”
