The 21-year-old joined Old Trafford as part of a slew of high-profile signings made by the club last summer. While other summer signings Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo were successful right away at United, Sancho struggled to live up to the anticipation surrounding his arrival.

With only one Premier League goal under his belt by the beginning of February, analysts and rivals alike were already questioning United’s high fee. His last five league appearances, though, have seen him contribute four goals, earning him United’s player of the month honor for February.

The England international admitted his dismal early-season form to Sky Sports Germany, but feels he has turned a corner. He elaborated: “I’m quite critical of myself. Although it wasn’t my best season, I did learn a lot. A new team, a new league.

“I’d say I’m only now really beginning to break free. I’m becoming increasingly at ease and content.”

Sancho believes his recent performance at Elland Road, where he scored two goals and added two assists in a 4-2 win over Leeds, might be a turning point in his United career. “I was named player of the match, and it was one of my best Manchester United performances.

“But, for me, it’s still about progress. I’m sure I could do a lot better.”
