Manchester United ‘open talks’ with Harry Maguire replacement and other transfer rumours
Manchester United are said to have ‘started talks’ with a potential successor for captain Harry Maguire.
Maguire has been chastised by fans and experts alike for his performances this season. When he was substituted by Juan Mata with six minutes to go in United’s Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, fans cheered.
United officials are in talks with Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji about a move to Old Trafford, according to the Daily Express via Four Four Two. Since joining the Bundesliga giants from FC Basel in 2018, Akanji has made 150 appearances.
The Swiss defender, who is 26 years old, is expected to partner Raphael Varane at the back next season. Meanwhile, Paul Pogba is said to ‘continue to foster’ his affection for Juventus.
According to Calciomercato, his Instagram post while United was in the Champions League with Atalanta this season is indication that he wants to return to Serie A. However, a return to his previous side, according to the Italian news outlet, may be more difficult than he would want.
Juventus are allegedly concerned about his inconsistency and injury worries this season. Calciomercato adds that the Old Lady will have to’very carefully analyze’ the circumstances before signing him.
