Manchester United is working with a limited budget this summer in order to support Erik ten Hag. Frenkie de Jong appears to be on his way, and the team is also hopeful of acquiring Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. However, given Antony’s current asking price, the Red Devils may have to be astute.

Manchester United is interested in supporting Ten Hag.

And the Dutchman would ideally prefer a fresh forward to help relieve Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal-scoring burden next season.

Ronaldo could yet quit United, throwing a wrench in the works as the new season approaches.

With the majority of their spending poised to go to Martinez and De Jong, it’s possible that the Red Devils will have to resort to the free agent market to freshen up their assault.

As a result, Express Sport will now look at three free agents worth considering as United looks to sign a new forward this summer.

Andrea Belotti.

United had an interest in Andrea Belotti a few years ago.

This was the period in which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over, with the Norwegian contemplating a move for the Italy international – only to end up recruiting other players instead.

Fast forward to the present, and it’s unknown where Belotti will play football next season.

He is now a free agent after leaving Torino, and according to Italian media, he has turned down the opportunity to join AC Milan.

Belotti would add experience and intelligence to United’s frontline, though it’s uncertain whether he’d be interested in a move to the Premier League at this moment.

Dybala, Paulo

When Paulo Dybala left Juventus earlier this summer, it was widely assumed that he would join Inter Milan.

However, the San Siro club dropped out of the deal, instead bringing Romelu Lukaku back to the club on loan from Chelsea.

That means Dybala is still in limbo, with United emerging as a potential suitor in recent days.

He’d bring more dynamism to the Red Devils’ frontline than Ronaldo, and it’s probable he’d get along well with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Dybala rejected out a move to United in 2019, but circumstances may force Argentina international to reconsider.

Dries Mertens

What a coup this would be.

Though Dries Mertens is no longer the player he once was, the Belgium international would be a valuable asset to United if he moved to Old Trafford.

He still has some of his pace and intelligence on the ball, and he scored 11 goals in 30 Serie A games last season.

Mertens is a player worth considering by United, especially given his availability.

If they do keep an eye on developments from afar, they may have to act soon, as Leeds and Newcastle are presently vying for the veteran’s signature.

Man United’s current situation

So far, United’s only summer addition is Tyrell Malacia.

However, after reaching an agreement with Barcelona, the Netherlands international is expected to join De Jong at Old Trafford.

United must yet persuade the 25-year-old, but they are cautiously optimistic that this will be doable.

United and Ajax have also agreed on a fee for Martinez.

Argentina international was previously targeted by Arsenal, but a move to Old Trafford and a new challenge awaits him in Manchester.
