Casemiro, the Real Madrid defensive midfielder, appears to be on the verge of becoming Erik ten Hag’s first marquee signing.

Fabrizio Romano, a leading transfer specialist, recently gave the five-time Champions League winner his signature ‘here we go’ treatment, implying that formal confirmation is now just a matter of days away.

Another La Liga player, though, could follow in Casemiro’s footsteps.

According to the Independent’s Miguel Delaney, the Red Devils are making progress in their pursuit of Barcelona full-back Sergio Dest.

Dest, 21, has been in Barcelona for two years after joining Ajax.

Having previously worked under ten Hag, and following a spell of poor form for both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot, it is easy to see why the 52-year-old Dutchman would want to rejoin one of his former teammates.

Dest, who has three years left on his contract, has appeared in 72 appearances across all competitions since joining the Nou Camp two years ago, directly contributing to eight goals.
