Maguire, Martial and 8-others already listed as Ten Hag plans total offload of some stars

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is contemplating a dramatic clear-out this summer, with a number of key stars, including Harry Maguire and David de Gea, poised to be released.

Harry Maguire is one of 12 Manchester United players who might be let go this summer as Erik ten Hag tries to overhaul the squad ahead of his second season in command.

The English defender has started just eight Premier League games this season after losing his place in the side after the arrival of Lisandro Martinez, and he has been told he isn’t in the manager’s plans, especially with the club looking to sign at least one new center back in the coming weeks.

Another significant name on the chopping table is David de Gea, who didn’t exactly shine in United’s 2-1 FA Cup final loss to Manchester City on Saturday.

The Spaniard has been the club’s No. 1 for almost a decade, and while a new contract is in the works, his place in the team is no longer assured, and he might be moved on if Ten Hag secures a new goalkeeper this summer, as expected.

With the likes of Harry Kane and Mason Mount widely connected with moves to Old Trafford, space in the squad and on the salary bill will need to be freed up.

According to The Daily Mail, Jack Butland, Wout Weghorst, Marcel Sabitzer, and Anthony Elanga have already left, with Maguire, De Gea, and six others expected to follow.

At least one of Scott McTominay and Fred will be moved on in the summer, though both might depart if United signs two new central midfielders and Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial, who have both struggled for minutes under Ten Hag, are also expected to leave.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has experienced a career renaissance in recent months, is a surprising contender for the bench, however, with fellow right-back Diogo Dalot signing a new deal last week, the former Crystal Palace defender may see his future elsewhere.

Tom Heaton, who has only appeared five times for United since joining in 2021, could also be released, though much will depend on De Gea’s status and how many goalkeepers remain in the squad by the start of next season.
