Nunez has been linked with a move away from Portugal following an impressive season. During the 2021/22 season, the Uruguayan international scored 34 goals in 41 games, generating a lot of attention ahead of the transfer window.

United has been mentioned in connection with a possible transfer. With Edinson Cavani’s departure leaving Cristiano Ronaldo as the club’s only recognized number nine, they’ll be on the lookout for fresh forwards this summer.

They may have to outbid their huge rivals for Nunez’s services if they hope to secure his services. According to the Liverpool Echo, the 22-year-old is one of several forwards being evaluated by the Reds as they prepare to replace Sadio Mane.

The Senegal international is expected to depart Liverpool this summer, with Bayern Munich the frontrunners to sign him. The German champions’ original approach of £25 million was turned down.

Nunez has emerged as one of the top names being discussed by Liverpool’s recruitment squad following his fantastic season in Lisbon, according to the report. Jurgen Klopp’s side is thought to be unwilling to overpay in their pursuit of a forward line addition.

Nunez has been linked with an £85 million move to Benfica this summer, with the Portuguese club hoping to pull off a deal similar to the one that saw Joao Felix join Atletico Madrid. Newcastle has also been mentioned as a possible destination, in addition to United.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United are now 6/4 favourites to sign Nunez this summer, according to SkyBet. Newcastle United and Real Madrid are further back at 12/1, while Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are 16/1 outsiders.
