Manchester United are closing in on their first two acquisitions of the summer transfer season, having agreed to terms with both Tyrell Malacia and Frenkie de Jong.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United has negotiated agreements with Feyenoord and Barcelona to lure the duo to Old Trafford. They expect to complete both deals in time for both players to participate in the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

United, which will fly to Thailand on July 8, has been watching De Jong for about seven weeks and has been in talks with Barcelona for the majority of that time. They had struggled to agree on a transfer cost for the Netherlands international, but it is believed that they have now agreed on a €65 million (£56.14 million) fee, plus add-ons.

Meanwhile, Malacia is set to join United for a much lower cost of €15 million (£12.9 million). The left-back was about to join French club Lyon, but Erik ten Hag hijacked the deal on Tuesday, and United appears to have secured his services.

Both players, who are still on vacation, will join United if their individual medicals are passed. If all goes as planned, they will be the club’s first new signings since Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford almost a year ago.

Unsurprisingly, the news that Manchester United are on the approach of making their first acquisitions of the summer has generated a frenzy on social media. MEN Sport has taken a careful look at what some of the fans have to say.

The news that the club has reached deals to add two players to Ten Hag’s roster has gone down a storm, as evidenced by the remarks featured in the tweets from fans above. They have waited patiently for good news on the transfer front, and they will now be hopeful that the arrivals of Malacia and De Jong at Old Trafford will create a domino effect in terms of fresh signings.
