Greenwood last appeared for United in a 1-0 Premier League victory over West Ham at Old Trafford in January 2022. After being arrested, he was suspended from the club.

Eventually, charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm were withdrawn. However, United are still going through their “own process” and have yet to reintroduce the player back into the fold at Old Trafford.

Greenwood’s future is uncertain as the new season approaches. However, the majority of Express Sport readers believe he should return to United.

We asked our readers if they thought Greenwood should play for Manchester United in 2023/24. And 61.4 percent of the 11,693 respondents said “yes.” Meanwhile, just under 25% of readers said the forward should be sold, while 13.6% thought he should be leased out.

Greenwood has lately been sighted working with a private coach in order to maintain his condition in preparation for a return to club play. And the Bradford-born 21-year-old, who has one England cap, will no doubt be eager to get back on the field as soon as possible.

Greenwood said after the charges were dismissed, “I am relieved that this matter is now over, and I would like to thank my family, loved ones, and friends for their support.” At this point, there will be no additional remark.”

And United manager Erik ten Hag recently provided an update on the matter, stating that the decision on the player’s future remained in the hands of Red Devils executives. “It’s a club decision,” remarked the Dutchman. “Of course, I’ve expressed my thoughts and opinions, but it’s a club decision.” That is something we must all accept.” When pressed further, Ten Hag responded, “I can’t say much about it.” But what I mean is that I expressed my opinion on it, so let’s see what happens and what conclusion is made.”

On Saturday, United began their Premier League preparations by defeating Arsenal 2-0 in the United States. Ten Hag’s team will play Wrexham on Wednesday before facing Real Madrid the following day.
