Nemanja Matic has admitted that he believes Jose Mourinho is the ideal coach for him after reuniting with him at Roma.
Mourinho was in charge at Chelsea when Matic returned in 2014, and he brought the Serbian international to Manchester United three years later.
After his contract at Old Trafford expired this summer, Matic rejoined Mourinho at Stadio Olimpico to join reigning Europa Conference League champions Roma.
“I already worked with him, we have a wonderful relationship, and he is one of the reasons I came here,” Matic admitted after moving to Italy.
“It’s not only simple to work with him, but it may also be difficult! But he’s a winner, which is precisely what I want from my coach and what I like to do in my profession. He’s a winner, and he passes that energy on to the players. I think we can do great things together.”
Matic was a near-permanent fixture in Mourinho’s Chelsea team and was as vital to the manager in Manchester, starting 35 Premier League games in his first year at Old Trafford and only failing to complete 90 minutes twice.
He joins a Roma side eager to strengthen in midfield as they prepare to bid farewell to another former United player, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is set to join Inter on a free transfer.
