Mata was rumored to be considering a move to the MLS or a return to Spain in order to extend his playing career.

According to The Times, he wants to join a club where he can play regularly and has not ruled out staying in England.

The midfielder only made seven Premier League appearances last season, and he hasn’t played more than 20 league games in a season in three years.

According to reports, Mata was given a new one-year contract by the Red Devils, but he declined.

The former Chelsea man is one of a slew of Manchester United stars who have left on a free transfer this summer.

The club has already confirmed the departures of Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, and Jesse Lingard.

Meanwhile, new manager Erik ten Hag is rumored to be looking for a central midfielder and a striker to fill the void left by the departure of the club’s players.

Mata won the Europa League, FA cup, League Cup and played over 200 games for United during his stint there.

‘From here, from the middle of the pitch at Old Trafford, at night,’ he declared after quitting the club. I’m on my own. It’s almost as if I’m in a dream.

‘I wanted to express my gratitude to all of you for your support throughout the years, particularly during the difficult moments we shared.’

‘I’ll never forget you,’ she says. Thank you so much for everything. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you all the best and bid you farewell.’
