‘It’s a shame and I’m not happy’: Mikel Arteta says one of his Arsenal players is ‘so disappointed’ after Southampton draw

Arsenal failed to maintain their winning streak this season as they drew 1-1 with Southampton at St Mary’s.

The result keeps the Gunners at the top of the table and, with Tottenham losing to Newcastle, does little damage in the battle with their main rivals. In fact, Arsenal may even start to pay more attention to Manchester City than Tottenham given the table.

Of course, Arsenal could have won. A few good chances went begging and Gabriel Jesus had a frustrating day not scoring again. Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Arteta said the Brazilian would be upset not to have scored.

“I’m sure he will be disappointed today because he had chances to score. Knowing Gabby, he is disappointed when he scores two goals and he could have scored three or four, so he can do it,” Arteta said.

“But he gets the chances and he’s always there. He gives a lot to the team and it’s a shame he couldn’t score them today.”

Indeed, Jesus’ lack of goals led Alan Smith to suggest that the Brazilian seemed a little jaded. After such an explosive start to the season, it’s easy to see why.

Arsenal must keep moving forward

No team is going to win every game, so the fact that Arsenal have taken a point here is a bonus. Especially considering Spurs also lost.

Mikel Arteta’s side show some resilience in their play and last season they could have lost this game, given the way Southampton rallied late on.

Arsenal did their best, and although Gabriel Jesus didn’t get his goal, he remained a key player who never stopped trying for his team.
