However, the Brazil Football Federation has confirmed Antony’s removal from the squad, citing the need to investigate the allegations after the details became public. Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, recently returning from injury, has been called up to replace Antony and will represent Brazil for the first time since his World Cup participation was cut short by a severe knee injury last year.

Antony has denied the allegations of physical aggression against his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin. In an interview with Brazilian website UOL, Cavallin claimed that Antony had attacked her in a Manchester hotel room on January 15, resulting in a head injury that required medical treatment. She also alleged that Antony had punched her in the chest, causing damage to a silicone breast implant that needed corrective surgery in Brazil. Another alleged incident occurred on May 8, during which Cavallin said she suffered a cut finger while trying to protect herself. She accused Antony of throwing a glass cup at her and taking her passport.

Cavallin reported allegations of physical and verbal abuse by Antony to both the Sao Paulo Civil Police, which occurred during a holiday in Brazil in June 2022 while she was pregnant, and Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

In response to the allegations, Antony posted a statement on Instagram, asserting his innocence and calling the accusations false. He stated that he had treated the matter seriously, cooperated with authorities and that the evidence would demonstrate his innocence. Antony acknowledged that his relationship with Gabriela was tumultuous but denied committing any physical aggression. He expressed confidence in the ongoing police investigations revealing the truth about his innocence.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) issued a statement acknowledging the allegations and confirming that inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the report.
