Gakpo Transfer Fee Announced – Man Utd receive Cody Gakpo transfer update as PSV chief sets out eye-watering demands
Cody Gakpo has been heavily linked with a January move to Old Trafford in recent months.
PSV Eindhoven director Marcel Brands has acknowledged that Manchester United target Cody Gakpo wants to leave the Dutch giants in January but will only be sold for a club-record amount. Gakpo has become as one of Europe’s most in-demand attackers in recent months, turning heads with his prolific performances for the Netherlands at the World Cup before their elimination at the hands of Argentina.
The 23-year-old scored three times in five appearances for the Oranje in Qatar and has contributed 13 goals in all competitions for the club since the start of the season, which has apparently led to him being highlighted as a January target by United. Brands have subsequently disclosed that Gakpo could depart for the Premier League next month, but any deal will be expensive, with PSV only ready to sell for a record-breaking fee.
“You have to be practical. “If you look at Cody Gakpo and his price tag, there may be 10 to 12 clubs in Europe that can afford him,” Brand told Eeuwig Trouw.
“Amounts have not been discussed, but if the appropriate club comes up, Cody would like to go.” Those arrangements were already in place when I arrived. In any case, it has to be a record transfer for PSV. Then you’ll know which way it should go.
The player, who apparently turned down the chance to join Leeds United over the summer, recently stated that he has yet to hear from the Red Devils regarding a prospective transfer but refused to rule out the option of joining them before the start of next season.
“I thought about Manchester United [in the summer], but when that didn’t materialize, I couldn’t remember,” Gakpo told Dutch media earlier this month.
“I began to have doubts. Leeds United did arrive. Should I go? Now I’m waiting for everything. Manchester United has yet to contact me. I’ll consider it when they arrive. In making these judgments, I also seek God’s guidance.”
