Manchester United drew 1-1 with Everton in a secret, behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday afternoon at Carrington.

No details of the game are being revealed, and club TV crews are not being let in to shoot it, as both sides attempt to find some form ahead of the Premier League’s return in two weeks.

According to the Metro, the game resembled a training session rather than a high-intensity battle.

United youngsters Rhys Bennett and Kobbie Mainoo are both thought to have played for the hosts, despite neither taking part in the U21s’ trip to Bolton on Tuesday.

The Red Devils are now fifth in the Premier League rankings, three points behind Tottenham in fourth place, and will resume their league campaign against Nottingham Forest on December 27 after traveling to Spain for a warm-weather training camp.

Although Ten Hag’s side has had a poor Christmas break, having been defeated 1-0 by Real Betis last week and blasted 4-2 by Cadiz the week before.

During their winter trip to Australia, Frank Lampard’s side defeated Australian A-League club WS Wanderers 5-1 and Celtic 1-0.

The Toffees will resume their domestic season against West Ham on Boxing Day, with the Merseyside club once again fighting for survival, sitting only one point above Forest in the 17th position.

Man United and Everton will meet again in the third round of the FA Cup in the new year at Old Trafford.
