Despite the striker’s ‘bullying’ of Wolves’ defense, Manchester United fans believe Lisandro Martinez will ‘pocket’ Erling Haaland.

On Saturday, Haaland added to his remarkable start to life at Manchester City by scoring his 11th goal in just seven Premier League games. In between goals from Jack Grealish and Phil Foden, he netted a spectacular solo effort from outside the box, while his humorous jostling with a Wolves defender during a counter-attack was labeled ‘bullying’ by supporters on social media.

With City and United ready to meet at the Etihad next, Red Devils fans have brazenly claimed their 5ft9in center-back Martinez has the Norwegian superstar’s number.

“Lisandro Martinez is the only one who can tame Haaland,” one fan remarked.

“Martinez is going to pocket him, he’s got that dawg in him, he’s not going to get bullied, he’s going to bully,” said another.

“The last time Martinez played Haaland, he was a man of the match,” a third added.

Indeed, Haaland failed to score during Dortmund’s first Champions League group stage match against Ajax in October last year. The striker had already scored 13 goals by that point in the season, but Martinez held him off for 90 minutes as the hosts cruised to a 4-0 victory.

Due to an injury, Haaland was unable to compete in the rematch. Despite being towered by the goal machine, United’s newest Argentine had a fine showing in the first leg, proving that size isn’t everything.
