Erik ten Hag makes Donny van de Beek decision ahead of Manchester United arrival

Van de Beek, 25, has struggled for Manchester United since joining from Ajax in 2020, and was loaned to Everton in January after being judged surplus to requirements.

Ten Hag, his former Ajax manager, is due to take over at United this summer, and The Telegraph reports that the 52-year-old intends to include the midfielder in his pre-season squad.

After falling behind the likes of Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, and Fred in the pecking order, Van de Beek will be delighted to be given a second chance to impress in Manchester.

He has only made 27 Premier League games and scored two goals in his two years at United.

This is a long cry from his form at Ajax, where he made 175 appearances and scored 41 goals in five seasons, three of which were spent under Ten Hag.

Van van Beek has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Everton after signing on a six-month loan, making just six Premier League games, as his career continues to deteriorate.

Van van Beek expressed his disappointment at not being able to make an impression at Old Trafford earlier this season.

‘It’s not easy if you aren’t playing, especially in terms of confidence and everything,’ he remarked. Every day, I put forth a lot of effort in my training.

‘I’ve begged for extra time to play.’ You can train hard every day, but you’ll need game time in the end.

‘You can’t display your finest form if you just play once a month – playing is crucial.’
