This announcement came after the Crown Prosecution Service officially authorized Greater Manchester police to charge Greenwood with a variety of crimes ranging from attempted rape to assault causing actual bodily injury.

On Saturday, October 15, Janet Potter, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, announced the development.

“The Crown Prosecution Service has today given Greater Manchester Police permission to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm,” Potter said.

“The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorized Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm,” she continued.

“The defendant’s first court appearance will be at Greater Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 17.”

Greenwood, 21, was arrested in January after his girlfriend accused him of beating her in a succession of video, photo, and audio recording evidence.

In one of the recordings, Greenwood can be heard urging the woman that he wants to have sex with her despite her repeated refusals. The woman later erased the posts.

On the same day, United announced that the then-20-year-old had been suspended indefinitely by the club.

Greater Manchester Police detained the England international on suspicion of rape and violence on a lady. Greenwood was arrested again the next day on accusations of sexual assault and endangering one’s life.

Greenwood had been released on bond as investigations continued until today when it was revealed that he had been re-arrested for contacting his victim.

He is accused of violating his release conditions by contacting the victim.

“The Greater Manchester Police Department is aware of an accusation that a 21-year-old man violated his bail conditions, and an arrest was made on Saturday, October 15, 2022.” “Enquiries are still ongoing,” a police spokeswoman stated.
