All of the speculation surrounding Arsenal’s pursuit of a new attacking midfielder this summer has so far been focused on two individuals in particular.

James Maddison and Martin Odegaard are two of the most talented players working today. There looks to be a new (or, at the very least, an old) name in the mix.

A transfer report from The Athletic today indicates that the name Houssem Aouar is once again being considered behind closed doors at Arsenal. Aouar has previously been linked to the club.

Interestingly, they go on to state that Arsenal is looking into the prospect of signing him on a permanent basis for a cost of 25 million euros, which would certainly be sufficient to sign him on loan.

DON’T MISS:

Arsenal’s pursuit of a creative midfielder would undoubtedly raise eyebrows if they are able to acquire Aouar on a permanent basis for roughly £22million, despite his market value being £38million.

A loan agreement would be preferable if the Gunners could include a pre-agreed option to purchase the player for somewhere around £22 million. If Aouar manages to adjust successfully, he will be worth far more than that sum by the time his loan agreement expires.

Arsenal, on the other hand, will be interested in a temporary “try before you buy” arrangement. This is especially true given the fact that Arsenal’s interest in the player dwindled in January, according to The Athletic, due to issues that were discovered during scouting and background checks on him.

        DON’T MISS:

The player’s profile, as well as his obvious talent and potential, has clearly caught the attention of the club in previous years, and they now have an opportunity to see if he fits in well with the club on a temporary basis before committing a large financial package to sign him on a long-term contract.

It should be noted that Aouar is not a natural number 10 and has frequently appeared in a more central role, as well as appearing from the left.

The signing of Odegaard or Maddison should not exclude Arsenal from pursuing this loan transaction, but it should be done alongside the signing of Odegaard or Maddison. Fill the team with flair and sell players like Elneny, Willian, and Maitland-Niles to the highest bidder.
