Police inside Atletico Madrid’s stadium was forced to intervene in a tunnel brawl as Manchester City’s march to the Champions League semi-finals was tarnished by ugly scenes.

City advanced to the final four after a tense match at the Wanda Metropolitano ended 0-0, with the Premier League champions winning 1-0 on aggregate. The game concluded in spectacular fashion, with Atleti relegated to ten men and both sides engaging in a massive on-pitch melee.

Pep Guardiola’s team, on the other hand, held their cool and made it through more than 10 minutes of added time to secure a position in the semi-finals against Real Madrid later this month. However, minutes after the final whistle, Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic is accused of chasing Jack Grealish as he sought to walk up the tunnel, prompting many police officials to intervene.

“As the players exited the tunnel, Jack Grealish was walking down the tunnel when Stefan Savic came up with him and there was a ruckus right at the end of the tunnel,” BT Sports announcer Darren Fletcher explained.

“At that point, a lot of people ran towards that area, and the two players, Savic and Grealish, vanished from my sight.” Four police officers arrived at that location very quickly after that, and there was quite a ruckus down there.

“I can’t tell you precisely what happened inside the tunnel because I can’t see it, but there was Stefan Savic involved again, Jack Grealish, the Man City player who was attempting to leave the pitch, but another unsavory incident here and very symptomatic of what we saw the previous 15 minutes.”

In the first leg at the Etihad, Savic looked to have an issue with Grealish, flicking his hair, and the central defender targeted City’s record signing again, tugging his hair in the commotion following his foul on Foden. Savic escaped a red card despite his several transgressions, and BT Sport pundits had their own thoughts as to why he picked out Grealish.

“It had to be the Gucci contract he got!” Rio Ferdinand cracked a joke. “He can’t be overjoyed that he landed the Gucci deal!” How long is your hair? I’m not sure what’s wrong. Jealousy? A hundred million dollars?

“Either Jack stated something we haven’t seen, or he simply doesn’t like the way he looks. If I were Jack Grealish, I’d be bragging about being a member of a winning squad.” “Savic had an issue with Jack in the first leg, you can see it’s a personal issue,” Joleon Lescott remarked. There had to be something there. While the rest of the Atletico players are celebrating supporters, he is in the tunnel. It’s a self-serving act.”

Images obtained by RMC Sport showed the two sides arguing as they made their way back into the locker rooms, with numerous members of security intervening to prevent things from developing further.
